Guys, I have an idle problem when I restart my 80 L48 when the engine is hot. The car idles normally at about 800 RPM rock solid in all conditions except when I restart it after turning it off for a few minutes. It will idle rough for a couple of minutes and even want to stall until it seems to clear itself out. The carb is bone stock original and has never been touched even the idle adjustment screws are still plugged. Any ideas?
I had a similar problem with my 81. Before I bought the car it set up quite a bit and wasn't driven much. I bought a can of Berryman's B12 carb cleaner in the spray can. Started the car and sprayed directly into the bowl vent, the small open tube at the carb air intake. I continued, occasionally running the rpm's up until the can was empty. That solved my problem without tearing down the carb. I think the carb was just gummed up from not enough driving.
It's possible your fuel well plugs may be leaking a bit, causing an overly rich hot restart, which otherwise wouldn't be noticed on a colder restart when a richer mixture is desired anyway.
not too familiar with later C3's, but if you have electric choke on it, this could be causing you issues. It may be choking while the engine is hot as soon as you turn the ignition key on.

It's the fuel. Our cars and carbs were designed to run on straight gasoline. All the fuel now available has other additives, such as ethanol. These additives raise the vapor pressure of the fuel (and lower the boiling point), and cause huge problems with carbureted cars. This is not a concern, since all modern cars are fuel injected, and have fuel pumps in the tank that keep the fuel under pressure from the tank to the injectors. But if you have a carb, you will have hot start problems with modern fuels. It's not a problem with your car. It's something we have to live with the enjoy these old cars on available pump gas.
