I had this same set on my BB when I got her years ago and the grounding kit is easy to hook up and take off. Otherwise, there is nothing to ground the braided wire covers. I eventually spent the extra few bucks difference between the cost of these and a set of OEM look-alikes from LectricLimited.
Like you, I like the looks of the braided wires and put them on my sbc. I talked to a few people about grounding them as the (Taylor) instructions require. I heard a lot of stories about shock hazard, etc. but the reason I went ahead with the grounding kit was the potential ignition noise in my sound system.
I know that improperly grounded electrical systems allow and induce all kinds of noise into sound systems, so I just went ahead and grounded out everything to the ground on the block just above the starter.
Sounds good; finishing her up tonight! Next is a new distributor cap, vacuum advance, new springs and rotor, should be fun! Going to try and tune using Lar’s method. This is my first time not using a computer to tune; cannot wait, I’m sure I will have questions. Thanks so much for the input!
