79L-82 Tach problems!!!!!
Somebody-anybody show me the light at the end of the tunnel before I slap a C4 charge to the engine and make a big mess!! I have read all the threads here on TACH problems, and still to no avail my Tach will start out at 0 and keep on going until it stops, and will stay there until I move it back. I've Replaced the circirt board, (bought it from Wilcox's corvettes Inc. in Indiana) compacitor, and the tach filter looks as though it's ok? all connections to the distrubutor are good to go. WHAT NOW????

What distributor do you have? Is it an original unit or an aftermarket high energy unit? If original, use the tach filter, if not, try bypassing the filter. Now - as to the tach creeping up to max value and staying there, sounds like a bad tach filter. A tach filter is supposed to suppress voltage spikes, it sort of absorbs any extra high volts, and lets the extra voltage bleed off slowly, protecting the gauge from excessive voltage. Your gauge goes high and stays there (right?) Maybe your tach filter isn't "bleeding" off the extra volts, it may be holding on to the extra volts and acting like a storage battery, sending your tach values off. Is your tach filter grounded? It needs to be grounded to work properly.
