paging distributor experts....lars?
Follow up from this thread....
I got the new cross-drive gear from CC (271001). even called their parts support to ask them if with this set up the nylon button would still be needed. Person on other end (didnt get the name) said that no, this new gear eliminated the need for it.
I am not so sure...i got the part in, and the gear will pull out (but does spin freely
Here is the part I got....

but, since the gear will pull out, isnt the nylon button (this isnt the thrust washer you all are referring to is it?) there to prevent the gear from driving itself further into the housing? I think this is the hogging that Lars describes in the thread above.
Bottom line, I may still need the nylon button?
Second bottom line, how can I tell if the previous tach gear has hogged into the housing? I shoved my finger up there, and didnt feel anything obvious, but then again, I dont think I know what I was looking for. taking something to a lathe as Lars describes is definitely out of my ability range.
I'm gonna have to pull the distributor, ain't I? oh boy......

Thanks again....

But if I were you, I'd just yank the distributor out, swab out the area with a rag, and do a good visual inspection. It'll take you 2 minutes to pull it out and 3 minutes to stick it back in, so just yank it.
You don't know me very well.....it will easily take me 2 hours to do such a simple task.
