Default Adding stock style

Going to be adding stock style powersteering and have some questions.

Can I use a pump from a 69 Z28 if so does anyone know if the brackets are the same?
I can't find anything about the pumpor brackets in the assembly manual.

Plus is there any way to check the steering box, cylinder and pump before installing them.

Lastly what do I have to be careful of when cleaning and repainting all these pieces.?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Almost forgot, am I going to have to have the car re-aligned (sp)? and is the manual steeringbox different than the box that was used on a car equipped with power steering?

The assembly instruction manual (AIM) will contain an N40/N41 section in Options showing everything included with power steering for those years when power steering was an option. You will find the original part numbers, notes on installation, etc, including the required bracketry. The illustrations are also helpful. If PS was standard on your car, the set up ought to be in the AIM section on steering.

For C3s, all steering boxes are the same, power steering or no power steering. Pitman arms are different.

Thanks alot Mike. I should know better than to ask questions at 2AM!!!

well, the pump should be the same I would imagine, and if the PS pump on a Z28 goes under the alt on the drivers side it should work. Thats just a SWAG tho, and its free

Thanks sixfooter and free too, good deal

Still a couple unanswered I know some ones got the answers.

1) Is there any way to check the steering box, cylinder and pump before installing them.

2) What do I have to be careful of when cleaning and repainting all these pieces.?

3) Am I going to have to have the car re-aligned (sp)?

Thanks for the help so far guys

Rick

One more 2 part question...... Seeing as my ideler arm and tie-rod ends are new on the non-powersteering setup can I use them on the power steering or are these parts only good for either or?

Easy Mike says the Pittman arms are different. Can't confirm or deny that. The tie rod ends should be the same. The Corvette power steering components aren't that expensive, compared to some other Corvette stuff, so unless you have free parts lying around you would be better off buying the correct parts from someone like Vette Brakes.

The pitman arms are different and cannot be exchanged. YOU CANNOT USE A MANUAL PITMAN ARM ON POWER STEERING!! I found this out the hard way. I had my car on jack stands and was testing out the new power steering. I had just converted from manual. The steering was okay in one direction, when I started back in the other direction, the wheel whipped out of my hands and went to full lock. If I had been driving the car, I could have wound up in the ditch or in a head on.

Default Rick B.

I've been throwing money around pretty good lately

I see the component kit ( valve, cylinder, hoses and fluid )for $230.

I'm thinking a correct bracket for the pump I should be good to go.

Thanks for the help gentlemen.

Go Jeep Box. Don't mess around with the 50s-design dino-tech power steering.
