Default Heat riser clean up?

I'm blasting my exhaust manifolds and then painting them with high temp cast blast.

What can I do to the heat risers to clean them up? Is there anything I need to check on these things to make sure they work correctly? Will blasting them damage them at all? Can I paint the insides...not that it wouldn't get burned off immediately?

Thanks

throw it away and use nothing, or replace it.

What is the purpose for it?

It forces exhaust through the heat crossover in the manifold while the car warms up, you can gut it and fill in the holes or buy a spacer.

I guted mine. The smog police say it needs to be there so it still is, just empty.

They can freeze up in the closed position and cause engine problems.

if you want to keep it just glass bead it and coat it same as the exhaust manifolds,
You can also choose to not use it and replace it with a spacer unit, the only difference will be that the car will take a little longer to warm up and the choke to come off since it won't be there to redirect the warm exhaust air back thru the crossover in the intake manifold.
If you only drive the car in the summer it's no problem to remove it but if you drive the car in colder weather I'd leave it in place.
