Lars's New Tech Project

As many of you know, I've stopped taking on carb rebuilds due to my "Forum Test Car" being torn down for rebuild (every carb I have built has been road tested on this car).
The photos tell the story: I'm tearing the car down to the frame for a complete rebuild and mild mod buildup. Success will be if nobody recognizes the car as the same car again...
It took me 4 hours of working by myself to get the body and frame separated (gawd, these things are just too easy to work on), but that was with a few beer breaks to grease the job along, and several body bolts had to be drilled out or cut off. Somebody working hard could do this in 2 hours, without doubt. Now I just need to strip the chassis down to the frame and get a little sandblasting done in preparation for the frame repairs.
Having a lift in the workshop makes body lifting rediculously easy. Here's Ralph and me checking out some of the work that's going to need to be done. It helps to have the bar right by the work...

The complete rolling chassis set aside and ready for disassembly.

The frame had been "repaired" by stuffing newspaper inside the frame rail as backing material to the over-laying Bond-O to disguise the rust holes. Luckily, I was aware of this when I bought the car, so this came as no surprise.

A little cutting, fabrication, and welding after I get it sandblasted will easily take care of the problem areas.

Oddly, the passenger side is not as bad as the driver's side. It's usually the other way around

Looks like you're talking on a cell phone in this shot...Maybe I'm onto something here...Beer Stein/Cell phone combo. This is exactly what we need on the road!
Keep us posted on your progress. From the sound if it, you should be done by tomorrow night!

Yeah, I should post a couple of pics of the sweet splice.... the car has been assembled from good pieces from 3 different cars, at least one of which was probably stolen...

Off to the steel supplier right now to buy the steel tubing for the body dolly... should have the body on a nice roll-away dolly by tomorrow.

Please stop making us slackers look bad...
