Default 68 ignition switch removal

I am trying to replaced the ignition switch on my parent's 68 conv. so far, I cannot get the old ign. cylinder out of the switch, and the new ign. switch and cylinder are assembled too, and I cannot get those apart either. The methods I have tried is putting a small allen wrench into the hole on the face and I tried a paper clip as well, turning the key towards the accessory position and pushing down on the little button inside the cylinder, I can feel the button pushing down and I have been wiggling this switch for a good hour and nothing is happening at all, anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
--Chris

Sorry, none of my papers address the ignition switch installed in the instrument panel. Can't help you on this one.

That's how it's done on 68 and older vettes. Jiggle and wiggle as you keep constant pressure to the accessory position. Remember to pull on the cylinder as you work it out.

Method is correct but maybe you aren't holding your mouth right
Insert the paper clip, you will feel it touch the button and then depress it some more. Insert key and turn past Accessories. The barrel should come out then allowing you to undo the nut holding the switch to the dash.

Oh yeah, disconnect battery before you start......

Just did it a couple weeks back. I used a straight pin because I couldn't afford the paper clip...

So I am putting my ladder away, no need to climb up on the roof and toss myself off anymore. Thanks for having the answers. I knew that stupid little hole did something.
Now on to my headlight switch. Ha Ha.

I'm searching the forum for the answer first.

Thanks again!

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I'm having the opposite problem. My key will turn past ACC without a paper clip and the cylinder will fall out. What am i missing??
