Transmission Problems - Need help!
OK, first off, I have a 81 Vette with auto transmission.
When I am driving, and get around 45-50 mph, the transmission shifts to 3rd. But if you slow down to about 40 or so, and then speed back up, it will not shift into 3rd. It's like it kicks in neutral (it just revs). So then I have to use the shifter and put it in second, and then into 3rd. Then it will shift into 3rd. This also happens if you go real slow from 40 mph - 50 mph, it will not shift into third.
Has this happened to anybody else? Is there something I need to replace in my trans? Also, my lock-up torque convertor doesn't work. Could it be something to do with that?

Disclaimer: I don't know much about transmissions.
Having said that, my Mother had a similar problem on her Toyota. I changed the fluid and filter for her, and that "fixed" it.
Get it warmed up, pull the tranny dipstick. and sniff it: if it smells like popcorn, that means you've overheated it, which basically eliminates the tranny oil's effectiveness. But before going with a rebuild or other major surgery, try the simple things first.
Good luck.
