ok something is killing my battery, but I cant figure it out all the wiring to the alternator is good, gound is good, but my "GEN" light keeps coming on and I just got a new battery today (2nd one it's gone through in 6 months) and it died at the end of the day. And it is a brand new Altenator. Any suggestions?
Start with ohm meter across + battery post and cable and see what amp draw is with doors closed and engine off, key off...then start pulling fuses until the amp draw drops, determine what devices are on that fuse and check each device/fix the device...
Sounds like your battery isnt getting input from your alt. When the engine is running whats your voltmeter saying? Will the engine stay running if you remove your neg. cable?
the GEN light is the indicator that is there to tell you the voltage regulator is failing. When the reg dies it provides a partial to complete ground for the light, the other side of the light is switched 12v that is the voltage sensing circuit for the regulator to tell the alternator how much voltage to put out. Replace th regulator and/alternator and problem solved
Thanks guys and all the bat cables are new fl rider that was one of the first things I checked was the connection. Hope I get this fixed today I don't like having my Vette down in the summer.
I just started the Vette no prob. no GEN light came on, I thought I was set when my altenator started to smoke and whine......I think I may have found the problem.
