Yes, if the computer is dead/disconnected/on fire/etc the car will still run. The default psition for the primaries is at full rich condition, so you'll probably find it feels OKish from cold but then runs worse & worse as it warms up.
The TCC/EGR relay triggering is suspect, but I'd check out the computer itself before anything else. If the burning smell was, in fact, the computer frying then all sorts of odd things could be going on.
Yes, the motor will run without the computer working, but you will have no spark advance except initial advance, the carb will run very rich and no TCC lockup. Be aware, the car has to warm up before the computer kicks in completely (closed loop operation). God bless, Sensei
PS, oops, looks like Paul and CA-Legal already told you this stuff!

I Dont See Any Service Engine Light On, And I'm Pretty Sure It Should Be On. I Think I'm Going To Buy The Computer And See What Happens. Anyone Knows Somebody Who Have One??
Hmmmm I wonder if my confuser still works... Maybe have to consider selling that thing, since I don't use it.
Where are you located slayer?
If the computer is bad, you can have all sorts of funky issues with that system. I'm one of the many that ditched the ccc system for the advantage of simplicity.
How does that old E4ME look? Mine was in need of serious help when I yanked it. The sensors were all worn out.
Oh, and if the check engine light doesn't come on when you stick the key in and turn it forward, just before you make the starter turn, the computer is probably dead.
ss, it'll run without the computer operational. but it's in "limp" mode. this is a fixed mechanical setting that just allows the engine to run enough to get you home.
the sound you should get would be coming from exactly the two wire plug on the top front of the carb when the air cleaner is removed. if it's working, it would be easily decernable.
if the computer is fried, and your new to the L81, i must join the rip and replace crowd. only difference between me and them is i'd suggest you not go back to carburater. might as well go back to points. bite the bullet and go with a pro-jection system.
i have no personal problem with the CCC but mine will go in favor of a better engine management system.

I'm not so sure an after market fuel injection system is as newbie friendly as a carburetor... Much more to hook up with fuel injection, also a bit more initial cost. ($2000+ vs. $200 - $500)
I've got an appointment with the corvette shop this Thursday to get some help with my timing so I'll see if they can find out if it's still good. About 5 or 6 months before I yanked the system I did a 400 mile trip and averaged 19mpg.
