Is it possible to replace the body mounts on a C3 without taking the body completely off the frame? Will the body lift high enough with the 4 mounts unbolted to replace the bushings without twisting the nose? Has anyone ever done it?
I'm going to try and post a pic. tonight in regards to the start of a body lift on an 81. I built a 2" square steel arm with 2 angle iron pcs. welded to the ends. It bolts to my floor jack. 1 for each side. It fits under the rocker channel at the 2 & 3 mount points. Lifts the car easily up the height the floor jack can go. Takes 1 person per side to raise it equally. From there I can finish fabricating my body dolly so that the car can roll out from under the frame or visa versa. Trying to conserve garage space. Next phase of lift is to have an engine hoist on both sides to raise it the rest of the way. Do not want to tie into roof joists to raise body with a sling. A fun father son project. I think if you duplicate the jack tube I made you can get plenty of body lift for mount replacement.

If everything is in good condition then yes. You stll have to take a lot of the same stuff off but you only need to lift it about 3 inches. Vette Mag did an article (Dec 2001) that went through some but not all of what needed to be done. It said to do one side at a time.

I replaced the body mount cushions on my wife's '79 a number of years ago...did one side at a time, used Energy Suspension cushions.
besides removing the 4 mounts, does anything else need to be removed or loosened to raise the body a couple of inches for the replacement? Is there anything on the frontend that need sto be loosened?
The steering rag joint needs to come apart. I would think that both the front and rear bumper/brackets would need to come apart. You will need to lift each side aleast 3 inches in order to get the old out and the new in place.
