I am looking at putting in a set of headers, but have a question on them.
My biggest reason for putting them on is the fact that my heavy duty idler arm is only about 1/16" from the exhaust pipe on that side and I wouls rather put on headers than go back to the normal idler arm.
My obvious second reason is wanting the look/performance of headers.
It looks like there are two types that people are selling for them:
MAD Type:
Other:
The first is the standard headman type, the second is just some generic style. I lean toward the second both because I prefer equal length headers and because it moves everything further toward the firewall. I have underfloor insulation, so I am not worried about the heat, but are there space or any other kind of issues that I should be aware of?
Anyone have any good pics of thier header install? Does most everyone have problems with the spark plug wires?

I could definately see that being a problem with the hedman type as well. What kind of difference did you get putting those headers on? What is the rest of your exhaust system?
I have the true duals with some lame cheapo mufflers, they will be the next to go.
I had to go to Accel shorty spark plugs because the headers were too close to the plug wires. I have the Patriot headers from Corvette Central
I had a similar problem of burning the wires against the header and finally went to a ceramic boot spark plug wire by Jacob Electronics. These can be ordered from JEGS or directly from Jacob's. A set will cost around $150. Maybe you only need one or two wires?

I too have true duals now, along with an Edelbrock performer polished intake and a 14064 Edelbrock carb, March underdrive pulley system, and 3:08 gears (yuck).
I guess the best way to desribe the results would be. I don't need gravel now to break the tires loose
The enlarged pictures of both of them on Summit's site shows them looking almost exactly the same. They both come with gaskets, reducers, etc. and both have the same pipe and flange thickness, but the FlowTech's are $50 cheaper. Is there a reason to get the Dynomax for the extra $?
I have the Stan's headers. Perfect fit, tuck up nice and tight underneath. Fits with angle plugs and has a 3/8" flange. A little pricey but probably worth it.

Any and all spark plug wire problems can be handled with ceramic spark plug extenders. I had 3 problem tubes, tried the Jacob's ceramic boots and finally tried the extender. They really solved all my plug wire problems.

I used block hugger shortys on my '77 w/SB. I made a pipe to go from the headers to my side pipes. I have no clearance probs with steering components or plug wires.
