From what I have read the 1976 frame did not have the holes for exhaust in the frame and had a catalytic converter under the passenger side of the under side. I have to completely separate exhaust and mufflers is this correct or is something not right?
Hmm, my '76 has the crossmember for two exhaust pipes, and it has never had dual exhaust. Has this thing had a different frame or crossmember installed at some point?

Your crossmember is stock. The stock crossmember has the the 2 holes for the exhaust even if your car has a cat on it. I think the only years that have a different crossmember are the 80's.

not sure what the guy before me did. but i thought the 76 had a catalytic converter under the passenger but mine has pipes coming straight from the headers through the frame and each pipe stays seperate and has seperate mufflers.
I am trying to learn as much about auto restoration and as much about my vechicle as possible.

You are correct that the 76 had a cat. All Vette's from 75 and later have cats. Most owners however get rid of the single cat and exhaust and replace it with true duals and no cats. Which is what you have.
The 76's stock exhaust was a 2 into 1 (convertor under the passenger side) into 2 mufflers. The stock cross member had 2 holes and 77 and later only had 1 hole in the cross member.

77, 78 and 79 also had 2 holes in the crossmember.

if there are headers on the car its highly probably the rest is not stock or anywhere close. If you are going to open up your exhaust with headers why would you leave the stock pipes and cats? Just my .02
ive also got an AIM...best 20 dollars ive spent on my car
