I have a 1980 vette, and want to replace the body mounts. I can access the rear (4) and front (1), but how in the heck do you get at the (2) position? This is the one located at the front side of the door behind the front tire? I don't see any type of access panel like for (3).

Remove the interior kick panel by your feet. It's in there.
#2 is accessed from inside behind kick panels like described above.
Spray lots of pb blaster b/c if you break the box that holds the nut in place its frame off time I sprayed it for 2 weeks straight until i sat in the car and applyed pressure using my feet to a socket wrench.
BE CAREFUL.
Once bolt is removed from all body mounts on one side and very loose on the other i used my invention in the link below (2nd from bottom) to slide up the outside of the frame supported by the metal sill that runs front to back and lifted the side of the car (body only) till i had enough room to get my hands inbetween body and frame to slide out old alumimum mount and slide in new poly mounts. I covered everything with Never Sieze...also helps stick when lowering body.
Depending how your car is jacked up now, i had to add weight lifting weights tied to my frame so when i lifted the body the frame wouldn't go with it. But I don't have a drive train in the car. #4 & #3 were hardest. #3 had to drill the bushing in half to get it out and #4 was a PIA to replace the lower reinforcement.
Good luck. Any questions post some more...with pics of course http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1408204
Are you saying that you can replace most of the body mounts without having to separate the body from the frame? My rear body mount that I can see through the rear-passenger wheel well is pretty rusted through on one side of the mount. I thought that I would have to remove the body from the frame (which is NOT gonna happen) for me to fix this so I was just gonne sand and file it down and then fill with JB liquid welder. If this can be done with separating the body from the frame, then this is something that I NEED to do.

I THINK most of the posts in this thread are referring to replacing the rubber or Aluminum body mount cushions, not the steel supporting structures. If you need to repair the frame-mounted structures or the cages attached to the body you will have to lift the body. It's not that hard to lift the body from the frame to effect repairs, and as long as you don't get infected with the "while-I'm-at-it" virus you can get the body back on quickly.

P.S. The "while-I'm-at-it" virus is 100% contagious.
