I'm considering a cam swap in my '72, which is equipped with Trick Flow heads. I'm installing all new parts, including the pushrods. I was reviewing the Trick Flow information and it mentions "special length" pushrods are required. Does anyone know what length pushrod should be used? I thought about measuring one of the old ones, but who knows if the old one's are the right ones! Advice?
Don't trust any published info! You need to verify valvetrain geometry and select pushrods for your particular engine. You will need a pushrod checker.
Normally on a stock cam TF heads use a push rod length of +.100 over stock. If you are doing a cam swap as well as new heads, you should measure for the true correct pushrod length imo. You really need to pick up an adjustable push rod to measure correctly. One like this :
