Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to break down and buy a new starter. I bought a heat shield for my starter, but it's still overheating. I want to buy a mini starter, but don't know which one to get. I've found a few online, but thought I'd get some opinions before I bought one. Here's a few that I've been looking at...
None of the above. Use the Delco mini-starter that looks like a shrunken version of the traditional starter. Any good chain parts store should have them rebuilt, I got mine at AutoZone.

Batty, you got any idea of an AZ name or number for that?? and how much you paid...and if i'ts staggered bolt pattern or straight....my engine is an '89 roller 4 bolt truck block...so is a staggered pattern...
Staggered pattern, it was designed for the BB502 engine. I think, but I'm nowhere near sure, that their part number is 25003. With the core charge, it looks to be around $150.

Advance Auto has an Autolite rebuilt, stock starter for the 88-91 Corvette for $107 with a $41 core. If you are a risk taker, you can get the house brand cheaper. If you go to their website (www.advanceautoparts.com), you can see a photo. The 88-91 C4s used a Nipendenso mini-starter. That's what I have on my car. It works with the small flexplate.
