Buy a GM cable. The local Vette parts place had one for $50.
I had originally bought an aftermarket one from Corvette Central. Within about an hours run time, the cable self-destructed, wound itself into a loop, and that was with the distributor clocked to take the sharp curve out of the cable when installed
Hope I've helped
Thanks a lot.
I just purchased a cable from Corvette Central. Will try to return it and get a GM cable.
Did you have any trouble replacing the cable?
How did you get to the back of the Tach for connecting the cable?
Make sure it is the same length, The ones from the Corvette shops are to long( one size fits all) I had a speedo and tranny shop make one to the correct length.

Connecting the cable to the back of the tach is difficult. It helps to have small hands.
Concerning the the point of location where the cable connects to the distributor, it helps to use a 90 degree fitting to reduce the chance of cable "kink".
Thanks a lot.

Sorry it took so long to get back. Replacing the cable was a lot easier than I thought it would be, just reached up behind the dash(using the Braille method) and unscrewed it, and pulled it out from the firewall(after removing the rubber grommet first). Put it back in the same way, wasn't really as hard as it sounds.
The new one was in a GM wrapper and fit fine no trouble with it yet!
Used the Braille approach and got lost.
I stood on my head, used a mirror and flash light and could not see anything that looked close to a tach cable.
Do i have to remove instr panel and go thru the front?
Was your a 73?

Mine is a 68, the fact it does not have air-con might make a difference(ducting in the way?). I couldn't see the cable either, just had to feel for it, but I have had the dash out before and knew pretty much where to start.
Reach your hand up behind the tach, you should be able to feel the cable. Follow it to the rear of the tach. You should feel a small tab(mine has a screw-on fitting). Now push the tab with your thumb while gently pulling on the cable with your hand, and the cable should come out. It sounds over-simplified, and it's a hassle, but it can be done.
Were you able to find a GM cable?
