Thanks to PhotoVette1 providing the necessary sources to research this fan, I found that a 130 amp alternator is needed for this modification. A Delta Current Controller looks to be a wise investment as well. I am still reading all the info provided and am convinced that, installed correctly, this setup will provide more than adequate cooling for any requirement one might have. Although I don't really have any cooling issues right now, I am collecting these parts to upgrade when I pull the engine this winter.

I ordered the Delta controller Friday--I'll give it a good test and provide results with video shortly.

PhotoVette1,
Post as much installation info and pics as possible, electronics is a very weak part of my mechanical ability. I was reading the info on the mustang install and it seems that he used 2, 75 amp relays. I have the Mark VIII fan purchased and will look for a 130 amp alt next. I think they were used on chevy trucks and I know hotrod suppliers have them. I would rather have a 3 wire alt than a 1 wire if possible. Thanks again for the help!

I would be interested in knowing what type of highway temps (60MPH +) you were running before and after installation. I have another thread running close to this subject (Aux cooling fans) and am watching this thread carefully.

Highway temps are the reason I am trying this. With the stock fan/clutch, I had no problems in town--on the highway however, it climbed to 230+ after awhile. The thermal clutch would disengage fully and never come back on at speeds over 65 mph. I am pulling 3000 rpm at 70 mph.

The ideal solution would be an overdrive transmission, but I went this way. Of course, with the price of gas about to go out-of-sight, I still my put an OD transmission in.

I ordered the pulse width controller and this circuit breaker to handle the load:

This has become a real project; I pulled the radiator core and am changing that. Then I decided that it is a great time to change the condenser coil and refrigerant lines. Of course, I gotta sand and re-paint the engine compartment walls now.

I will certainly have Corvette withdrawl syptoms before its back on the road again...

I noticed at least a ten degree drop in temp when I installed my manual 5 speed at 70 mph. I was running 3200 rpm at 70 now I'm running 2100 rpm. The best mod I have done to make the car more enjoyable, fun and with less heat!

Hey PhotoVette1, Did you ever sail out of Kings Bay?? Check my avatar, I may have sent you to sea and brought you back. I've been doing this since the early 80's.

Capt. Ron,
You might be asking him a question he isn't at liberty to answer.

Never made it to Kings Bay--was out of Holy Loch Scotland for the most part--then Charleston.

Besides, we never had to be towed out--just towed in from time to time.

Hey! I was on Deck Division on a Fleet Tug (USS Paiute ATF-159) out of Mayport for a year before I went to nuke school. You need any crew? These darn models are killing me and I'm ready for a change of career! That was real Navy--I should have stayed aboard her.

I'm a lot better trained now then I when I served aboard her--diesel tech (8 1/8)--plus every school a Nuke MM could get--off crew periods were great for training.
