the stock air valve spring setting is 3/4 turn past the valves lightly seated on your #7043202
the leak would most likely be a air bleed (syphon break) that is plugged causing the fuel to syphon into the bore after the engine is shut off OR it could be a bad bowl casting that has a fuel passage that leaks into that throttle bore.
try to take a look to see where the gas is leaking from with the top off the carb. the fuel level should not drop in the bowl other than fuel evaporation, i have seen 2 q-jet fuel bowls that had bad castings in the 30 plus years i have been doing carbs for a living so it is not very common.
henry @ oles carb
I put the air horn from my original 73 QJ on this carb thats giving me all the trouble and the secondary problem is solved
It looks like the spring is either broken or it simply fell of the adjuster...too bad its still leaking fuel into the primary on the passenger side and I have no idea why.
Its a great running carb except for the fact that it floods after sitting for 1or 2 minutes after I shut the engine off ....Then I have to hold it to the floor to get it started..... this is damn frustrating

Needle valve on the float not sealing off the pressure allowing the bowls to overfill maybe ??? Fuels wells leaking badly???

I doubt it
While I had the airhorn off (the carb was still on the car) I filled the float bowl with gas.
It only leaked on the passenger side.
I cant imagine what is causing this
cracked carb body?. Did you get out your magnifying glass?
Yeah.... I checked everything..
Im going to drop it off to the rebuilder Ive been using
He's gonna take a look at it
He has shelves upon shelves of QJet cores so maybe Ill have him bead blast and coat one (the nice gold color) for me and take another shot at rebuilding one from scratch
I think I just got a bad core this time
Ill let you all know what the problem was after I see him
Thany you ALL very much for all your help but I have officially given up on this core

At least you learned alot about how they work, though. Sometimes 30 years is a bit hard on carburetors, though.
