I ask b/c early next week I too will be ordering 3" half shafts for my 68 and keep the stock 2.5" as spares.
Fort Wayne Clutch has them for $150 a pair w/flange and w/spicer u-joints. You paid that for one, so I'm assuming your HD's are stronger.
Another stupid question after the above one is given thought, did 68 big block cars come with 2.5" halfshafts or larger 3" ones? I thought the 3" did come around till early 70's...
Nothing special other than shaft Dia, same as big block
wish i knew about ft wayne clutch, the higher price just comes from dealing with ecklers, and i needed it now, so i paid more.
but yes big block cars had the larger ones even back then, and even some small block depending on what gears you rdered

So is it safe to say that if you see a 68 or 69 with original 2.5" half shafts then the car was originally a small block car???
yes that is a safe statement, borrowoing the exceptions from the factory, or customer orders, I know a guy whose car was a small block car but origionally came with the 3" half shafts associated with a gearing selection, 38 years ago all kinds of oddities and mix matches occured
Update
I must go get some clear coat for these suckers
any suggestion team ?

If clearing them, clean very well with lacquer thinner or isopropyl alcohol.
I prefer Krylon for my spray painted parts ... fast dry and no drips.
Be careful not to get solvent on the Ujoint seals.

Ok
how about a polyeurothane clear coat?? Ive used it on things like hinges and such, but never on something outside of the engine bay

I have the Fort Wayne half shafts and so does another Forum member, they are very heavy duty with spicer solid u joints and came with the mirror finish also. Wouldn't be surprised if they supplied Ecklers with the shafts....

Those look great. Lot of nice new goodies, too.
I guess polyurethane would work OK, but it dries very slowly
and has a tendency to drip.
Me tinks that's a C4 vert.
