Well I just went by there and checked the right side rocker arms. They are DEFINETLY setup with clearance inbetween the roller and the stem so....Its got to be a solid. I didn't measure the clearance but the 4-5 rockers on that side that the valves were closed on were pretty consistant on the lash. I have never seen a hyd that you can lift the rocker arm off the valve stem, even if the engine was not running there was still some preload usually. These suckers are loose. Its gotta be a solid. I guess now I need to find the correct lash for a solid roller so I can set them. Even these on the right side seemed looser the .018-.020.

I think comp says .016/.018 so I will probably set them to that.

I would pull the intake and see what you have before you start adjusting rocker lash

If I pull the lifters, how can I tell if they are solids or hyds?

I will run by there tomorrow with my feeler gauges and see what I can find.. It has full roller rockers so they don't have any side to side play like stock rockers so it will be hard to "feel" the slack.

I will probably set the valves assuming they are solids and start it up and see if I have a lot of clacking, if not, I guess its right.
You're first conclusion was right.
Unless you want to pull off the intake anyway, just go ahead and do this. If they're solid, you're done, if they're hydraulic, then just re-adjust with the engine running.

Either way, it won't hurt anything. No sense in trying to re-invent the wheel.

Thats what I am thinking noonie. I have in remove the intake in a few weeks anyway to put the factory aluminum intake back on it, I don't want to pull all that ignition shielding and sh*t off twice. Judging the right bank's lash, I think they are solids. I am gonna set em to .016/.018 and fire it up. IF it clatters its *** off, I know they need preload(hyd)

Make sure the clearances are for a cold engine or a hot engine, makes a difference.

Ya JIM, we are going to make it assuming I get the 69 BB back together. We will be there either way. I will be in my 71, my dad will either be in the 69BB or our 69 Pontiac GP with a 468"BB. We got a 66 vert coming along with a 02 Z06. AND anyone else that wants to roll with us up there.

You going?? I would LOVE to see your vette in person

the hydraulic lifter will compress in the middle when its not in the lifter bore and you will see a retaining ring around it

OK guys, got her running. Set the valves to .016/.018 cold and let it rip. Rockers were fairly quiet, about like before but you can hear them slightly if you get your ear by the valve covers. Car runs pretty well. STill need to do some timing tuning because its getting a little pinging in 4th at WOT and has a slight run on problem but.. all in all it runs good. Also slapped on an old oil pressure gauge I use for testing because the factory gauge would show 40psi on the free way and 0-5psi at idle. My test gauge is showing about 60psi on the highway and 20-25psi at idle. Also it seems to have stopped smoking the oil seals replaced. It would start smoking about 15 mins of running and would smoke for about 20 mins of driving but then it would stop. No more smoke so far. So far so good.

Gonna take it on about a 150 mile round trip tonight and see how it does.
