If it is the original adhesive this may sound crude but I removed my 73 with a chiesel and hammer. Tapping....... not full force beat it to death swings,it will seprate.

I dont understand. You are going to remove the front from a bad body to install on a good body? Sounds funny to me. Anyway, the 68 will prove to be a challange to remove. The panels are old polyester type and sometime they are bonded so well that there is practically no way to remove it without damaging the panels, unless you cut away at the bonding strips, and then grind away at them from the bottom. This is the only way to safely remove the front without damage. You may get lucky, some will come off, but some will not.

Just removed a broken front from an 81. I used a "heat gun" kept it moving slowly across the bonding points, and as above I used a wide chisel with a body hammer. (very light taps) Came apart nicely. Then its a matter of sanding off the excess adhesive to bond on the new front. I am inexperienced at vette bonding but this removal process seemed to work pretty nicely. Learning as I go,plus all the great info obtained from this sight.

An 81 is a totally different animal than a 68. Polyester vs SMC. You can sneeze on an SMC panel and it will fall off. It takes dynamite with a 68.

I used a heat gun and wood chisel to remove the front clip from my '73, it went very fast and was fairly easy.

Default 74 clip

RPOZ4Z I am also in the process of replacing the front clip on my 74. I found a decent used on I am suppose to pick up this weekend. The guy is not removing the clip from the firewall. My question is I am pretty sure I can get to the bonding area at the door side off without damaging it but what about the Cowl Inner Plenum area. Looks like it would be hard to get at. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Thank in advance Russ
