Default rubber mounts on 73

Hay guys, I cleaned up the #3 pockets with new metal and primed the area. I was all ready to lift the body the required few inches to slip the new mounts in. I put a 4x4 under the passenger floor and started to lift. All I heard was the fiberglass moaning and wanting to crack. I have removed the bolts on the passenger side. Then I got the bright idea to lift from the outside of the birdcage in the middle of the door area. Nothing. All I am doing is lifting the whole car. I thought from previous posts the this was possible without a lot of disconnection. What am I doing wrong. And more importantly, what do I have to do get these in?
Thanks in advance, Dan

Zwede,
I thought that this was not necessary. Does this procedure apply to rubbber as well as poly mounts?

You still have to remove the front and rear bumper brackets an steering rag joint. Doesn't matter if you want to lift it 3 inches or 3 feet. Also, my body mounts would not come loose from the frame without some good old persuasion. body-off

Yeah, you need to lift it high enough to get the new mounts in so all steps still apply.

Thanks everyone. Looking for the easy way out. I forgot, there is no easy way with the corvette.

I'd think if anything you'd have to go higher with the rubber mounts because they compress so much, like jacking up the frame to change a tire.
