Default torque converter and gear selection

I'm a bit lost with this whole torque converter and gear selection process: Could someone help me out or give me some suggestions?

Here's my engine combo:
383 (12cc dished pistons, internal balanced) with the XE274 Hydraulic flat tappet cam, trickflow 23 degree heads, Performer RPM intake, 670 cfm Street Avenger carb.

Tranny:
Stage 2 Bowtie OD

Never desktop dynoed it myself but I was told by a friend with a similar combo that DD said 387 HP @ 5000 RPM and 435 ft/lbs torque @ 3500 RPM at the flywheel and 407 ft/lbs @ 2000 RPM.

The car is going to be more of a cruiser and may see the track only a handful of times, mostly street and highway driving. What would be the best torque converter and gear ratio for this setup? I was leaning towards a 2400 lockup converter and 3.55s. I'm looking to try to get the most optimal MPG out of my setup.
Thanks in advance,
Yuchen

With an overdrive tranny I would go 3.70s or even 3.90s, that will make good gains in acceleration and would still cruise easy with the OD. On the converter if you are only going to run regular street radial tires, a 2400-2600 would be ok, especially if you are rarely going to run it at the strip. If you were going to run it more often and run drag radials, I would suggest a 3000-3200 stall. That big of a stall is really manageable on the street, ESPECIALLY if its a lock up, when its locked it won't even feel like a stall. The 3.70-3.90s will also tighten the converter up some.

If if was my car, I would go 3.90s with the 3200 converter. Just make sure you get a good brand converter like a Vigilante, Yank, Coan or Continental.

BTW I bet your motor breaks 400 FWHP easy. hell probably 425hp once its tuned right. You will have a mid 12 sec car pretty easy with the right setup.

Isn't there a math formula to compute best stall speed for the specific output of an engine or something like that?

Every combo is different, and wants dictate stall also to an extent, but optimum stall speed for best performance in a street/strip (mainly strip) car is 1000 RPM below engine torque peak, or flash stall to just below torque peak.
