Hood Alignment Question for Easy Mike
Mike
Following on from your post regarding the rubber blocks that align the hood.....
I lost one (or maybe two) of these a while back when I had the front end of the car re-painted. Since then, the hood has "settled" in much the same way as Neo Fender's. If I put new blocks in to re-align the hood, what's the chances of this causing the paint/fiberglass to crack?

Re: Hood Alignment Question for Easy Mike (Aeroshark)
Neo
On our '78, the remainig blocks are about a third of the way from the front of the hood. The one(S) that went "walkies" were about level with the rear of the wheel arch. The effect was that they lifted the middle section of the hood a little. As the '78 hood weighs half a ton anyway :D, when it was closed it needed only the normal pressure to latch. But, it had "bent" enogh to align with the wing (oops, fender!) all the way along. High tech wasn't in the St Louis plant vocabulary I don't think, so that probably seemed like a fair way to adjust the hood. I'm just worried about doing it so long after a paint job....

I don't think you'll have any problem, but I'd give the shop a call and have them install the blocks for you since they failed to replace them or at least get them to agree to fix any problems they cause in the paint (if any occur).
Think about how much the hoods flex during opening and closing, probably not an issue. . . but then again, it's not my car.

Re: Hood Alignment Question for Easy Mike (Stephen Irons)
Stephen -- the alignment blocks should cause no trouble at all and no fiberglass damage. They aren't that big and they were used by the assembly plant for the same purpose. They sit in the rain gutter/hood ledge of the fenders and raise the hood to the fender line when the hood is down. They are not meant to be installed near the hinges in front or the latches in the rear. Those items have their own adjustments (shims). The blocks are to be used in the gutters/ledges between the hinges and latches to bring the hood up to the fender line. There are two factory blocks on my '80. They work. Remember, you may have to shave the bottoms if they make the hood sit too high.
