Default HELP!!! Problem with a friends FORD

FORD, where do I start? He brings me this 1999 3.0 v-6 ranger of his with a check engine light and a misfire code(po302). I changed the plugs, plug wires, coil, and crankshaft sensor. The engine is still missing on #2. The trucks got 100,000 miles on it. Anybody ever had a po302 code, and fixed it with something other than what Ive already done? Any ideas?

At the risk of sounding like a dummy.... how do you check injectors? I usually only deal in really old stuff.

You have to have the software to clear the code once you've completed the work or it will keep on showing up, even if the problem has been fixed......

Before you replace an injector on an old truck w/a 100K try filling the tank w/good gas & adding a pint of a "good" brand fuel injector cleaner like Gunk-Out. I had the same problem w/my daughters VW Bug & the stuff ready works. I forget the name of the stuff but it was in a black bottle and made by one of the major gas company's.

You can take a stethoscope and put it on the injector and listen for clicking sounds. They should increase with rpm. You can also use a noid lite (cheap).

You cannot test if it sprays properly this way. You can rig up a pressurized apparatus to test, but for a 1 shot deal it probably is not worth it.

You can also use Chevron injector cleaner, the same as pros use, but they use it at very high concentrations to clean the system whilt running. Should be done regularily anyway for best performance

Thanks for this website! I found something usefull, another guy with the same truck and problem. They tried everything I did, and it turns out that these 3.0 heads are bad about valve seat wear. They wear down so that the valve no longer seats, causing loss of compression and thus a misfire. My next test will be a compression test on #2.

I cleared the code each time. My manual said to clear it by pulling the NEG. battery cable for at least 30 seconds. It worked, but as soon as you take the truck down the road, and it starts running rough, the check engine light comes back.
