Rick,
You might try to clean it with lacquer thinner or grease and silicone remover. Is this a decal or a lable? If its a lable you can use some crazy glue on it. You might find that you have contaminated your lable or decal in the process and need to replace it.

Sounds like the adhesive on the decal is now shot.
Here's what to do. Carefully remove decal. Use lacquer thinner to clean the part to remove any remaining grease or adhesive. Get a can of 3M spray adhesive ( Wal-Mart) Spray back of decal. Put it back on.
