Hi Guys,

Mechanically speaking except the L82 is more powerful than the L48 what exactly the differences are? (I mean what the parts are different?)
Thanks

Not really sure .. BUT

The blocks AND the heads were the same..
Carb & Distributers differed...

Someboby should give Both of us the full story on what was different...

For starters:
Block: L-48 2 bolt mains, L-82 4 bolt.
Intake manifold: L-48 iron, L-82 Aluminum.
Crank: L-48 Nodular iron, L-82 Forged steel
Camshaft: L-48 .39inlet, .41 exhaust, L-82 .45 In .46 ex.
Valves springs are different
Valves are bigger in L-82
Pistons are different (cast vs impact extruded)
Rings are different.

L-48

HP/TQ 195/285
comp ratio 8.2:1
2-bolt main
garbage cam
crappy heads
cast iron manifold

L-82

HP/TQ 225/270
comp ratio 8.9:1
4 bolt main
much better cam (still not as good as a modern aftermarket one though)
heads are a little better
aluminum manifold
better rods/pistons/crank (forged, I think)

The above are for the 79 version, other years may not be exactly the same, check out http://100megsfree4.com/corvette/ for stats on other years.
