I used the Felpro gaskets on my 82 with a little non hardening RTV Sealant and no more leaks. I torqued them down two full turns past nut driver tight with a small socket and ratchet.
It won't stop leaking it backfires and the trans is leaking again. I need to teach it who's boss and rip the drivetrain out.
There ya go pull it in the garage and rip it apart you will forget
all about leaks and backfires for awhile. Are the ricer cars begining
to look better. They sell big ford tuneup tools at home depot.
I'm not sure if he knows what a chevy tune up tool is. Neither do I for that matter. Maybe a all purpose wrench to tighten bolts or a 30 oz tube of caulk for all the leaks.
Do you have the gm valve covers or aftermarket? Maybe the flange isn't true. I have the lt-1 valve covers on my 71. I use the regular fel-pro cork gaskets with no sealant with no leaks. Maybe check them with a straight edge.
Do you have a an inspection mirror? Look around the bottom the the cover and see where it is leaking. You should be able to tell easily because it will look wet on the end of the gasket. (no need to have the car running)
Check the mating surface in that area..make sure old gasket material is completely off and check to see if there are any imperfections on the head mating surface or the valve cover in this area.
Use laquer thinner on a rag and clean the mating surface on the head and the valve cover.
Replace valve cover without rtv...do not over-tighten.
Hope this helps. Had this problem on a couple of vettes. Turned out to be old gasket material causing a slight bump where the oil leaked by.
They are eldelbrock elite series ones. They sealed before they were taken off to adjust the valves. Then the just started leaking. I think I'm just gonna have to buy new ones or something. BTW they are brand new gaskets.

Have you put a small strait edge along the length of them to see
if there is a problem.
Are you sure the gasket is staying in place in the valve cover when you put it on. when I used the old stamped steel valve covers with cork
gaskets I used the 3M weatherstip adheasive to hold gasket to the
valve cover that was mostly done because I was pulling the valve
covers off to adjust solid lifter cams. That crap is hard to scrape off
the valve cover and you should not have to do that.
All I can say is if you know your valve cover is in good shape and
you have not somehow goughed the aluminum head and your sure
you have the gaskets on right, guess you need to call up any of the
old engineers at chevy ( if still living ) and ask them sorry SOBs why
they only used 4 tiny bolts to hold valve covers on small block chevys.
You may have to break down and buy something better then cork
for gaskets.
