Default [UPDATE] Fuel system upgrade

OK, for those who haven't ready my fuel cell thread.. I'm upgrading my fuel system to a fuel cell and #8 fuel line.
The first thing that I did was to run the #8 line along the frame. The difficult part was to run it into the rear wheel well and then down to the lower frame. What a pita but I finished routing the new fuel line to the front. I will tie the #8 line to the original metal lines (main line and return line)

Then I removed the old tank and test fitted the fuel cell (not attached yet). I'll make some brackets that I'll use to attach the fuel cell to.

The fuel cell sits low enough so that I can open it without a problem through the factory fuel door.. The opening of the fuel cell doesn't line up perfectly with the fuel door but it's good enough. (as the opening on the cell is huge)
Now I'm going to mark the holes that I'll drill into the fuel tank crossmember to bolt down the new brackets that will hold the fuel cell in place. Will post pics of the progress later.. I think that I'll be able to finish everything today!! Heading to lunch now!!

Here are the pics:

The fuel cell side is done. Now I'll only have to hook up the new carb linkage tomorrow and tie the braided fuel line to the metal fuel lines..

Hey O.
Here's the regulator pic I promised you. I posted in your old thread. Sorry. Those long screws hanging down can be a real " scalp ripper".

You may have trouble passing tech inspection when you try to race your car with an exposed fuel cell. I replaced my stock tank with a plastic 8 gal fuel cell and I could not run my car at the drag strip until I cover the exposed bottom of the fuel cell with 0.024 sheet metal or 0.032 aluminum. This is part of the IHRA requirements "When used, fuel cells must have a metal box protecting the part of the fuel cell that is outside of body lines or trunk floor, excluding hose-connection area in rear".

Thanks!!

For now, I'm going to stay without a return line. The guy at the local speed shop has a 1000 HP Camaro that runs in the 9's and he doesn't run a return line... so I should be ok too.. Well... at least for now. He also said that for safety, I will need to add a vent if I'll hook up the return line to the vent. The tank should be vented!!

That's the first thing I thought about when I saw the long bolts. While the cell looks nice it requires a little more attention to details.
I am a little **** and I like things to look a little more professional.

I don't care about how it looks. It has to be functional and the cell is tied down pretty good.. It's not going anywhere

Now myi fuel system has no more hose clamps in it.. Only -8 AN fittings

I know you don't care and you do enjoy racing the car and have fun doing it. I just feel a mans workmanship is a sign of his attention to detail. It's this attention to details that usually seperate the good from the bad, the guy that really has his act together.
I do enjoy following your posts and look forward to them in the future

Attention to detail = time consuming..

I'm not a patient person and that's why I pay little to no attention to detail, especially for those things that aren't visible...

Billy Gliddon was just like you. No attention to detail but a winner

I usually pay attention to details that have anything to do with performance but not appearance..

I also mainly do the work on my car because I don't feel like paying $85/hour to someone else if I can do it myself.

Norval, just let it go, he won't get your point no matter how hard you try, if he likes it I like it, more power to him, if it works it works
