I cranked my car and heard a hissing sound coming from the vaccum relay valve. The car would not keep running.
Am I lossing vaccum? After the engine stops, I still hear the hissing sound for a few seconds. Is this normal?

Regardless, just to do a quick test, disconnect and plug your vacuum ports (except the brake booster and timing advance) and try driving it like that. see if it makes the difference.
Sorry just stupid but I couldn't resist............
The snake in the car thing actually happened to a friend of mine several years ago while I was still in the Army.
We were in Louisiana and he was driving a HMMWV down a two lane public road when he ran over a biga** cottonmouth. Of course, he immediately slammed on the brakes, backed up, picked up the dead snake, tossed it in the passenger side footwell, and took off again.
He said he had went about a mile or so when he thought he noticed something moving in the vehicle. He was moving at a pretty fast clip (too fast) on a paved road. The first gen HMMWV was not a nice thing to drive fast on pavement. He looked again, and sure enough, the dead snake wasn't so dead after all, just really, really, really pissed off and confused!
So he grabs a big old crew served size thermos he had with him to try fending the snake off, and with the other hand, trying to keep the raggedy old HMMWV out of the ditch and to a safe stop.
He finally got it safely stopped and bailed out of the truck. Then it took him a while to figure out what to do. In the end, he grabbed a big forked branch and scooped it out of the truck.
