I did not look for LSX heads ... not many C3 fitted w/ LSX.
I did not look for BBC heads ... they're typically higher $ than sbc.

Would the esteemed mod please follow up & substantiate?

Those things fit a Small Block? At the very least he will need a new intake and new headers. A new engine to go under them wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks ... but those are for late LSX ... not too many C3 retrofitted with LSX ... yet. Those won't fit any type motor that came in a C1/C2/C3.

After some hunting around I can get a pair of used vortec heads for like $240 + shipping. I'd need a new intake manifold but at least that would get me some more power anyways. New question at hand is where can I find an inexpensive dual plane vortec intake manifold? Remember I'm using a M4M q-jet on top of it so squarebore =

Ebay of course!

Here they are.

A little cleaning up and they should be good to go. I'd have Motor Machine do whatever needs to be done to them before they go on. So $107 + $20 shipping is the cheapest I'm going to find a dual plane vortec manifold eh?

Wow this is getting complicated. So here's a status update.

Talked to my guy at motor machines and he may have a set of L98 heads that he'll trade me for my stock heads, which he rebuilt a year and a half ago, for $300. He's gotta check them out first, though. He's also going to see if there's any good vortec heads he can get for a good price, also.

Now just to double make sure, I don't need a different intake manifold to use L98 heads, correct? That's the only thing that kinda swayed me away from vortecs before is the manifold change. $300 will include him rebuilding them, of course.

So for maybe $600 installed I might end up with L98 heads.

Peanut gallery?

Looks like the standard carburetor bolt pattern.

http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/3129...inder-Head.htm

"This GM Performance Parts SB Chevy Aluminum Cylinder Head was used in 1987-91 Corvettes with TPI. They have a standard carbureted intake bolt pattern and centerbolt valve covers. Ideal for use in street rods and fresh water boats. Must use self aligning rocker arms."

Looks just like an Edelbrok Performer... no provisions for a hot air divorced choke
Has dual pattern for Rochester and Holley though

Meh I've got an electric choke. I don't think I'd ever use a divorced choke, don't trust em much.

Won't need an intake if my engine guy can get me the L98s cheap. I got an estimate on removal and reinstallation of my new heads, too. $150 to take em off and put on the new ones. I hope that's for both.

wow, kalway, you may be in luck. i just aquired an entire vortec motor, for which i will not be using the heads. they are used, of course, but complete, even down to the self-aligning stamped rockers and centerbolt valve covers. i would be happy to part with them for $80. i'm in vegas so you can figure whatever shipping that would cost or just come and get them some weekend.
now for the disclaimer part, i cannot guarantee the condition but said motor was running at the time of removal. motor was smoking and would not pass smog. there is no evidence of any damage to the heads, no sign of overheating (i.e. cracked) and no sign of valve damage. they ABSOLUTELY would need to be disassembled and thoroughly cleaned.
yet another option for you rather than going to a 'vortec' intake manifold is to simply have the heads drilled and tapped for a conventional manifold. should cost about the same as a new intake so if you already have a good dual plane, your golden.
lastly, i have been told the L98 heads did have a different bolt pattern than early heads but i have never verified that.
