It has a higher R heat barrier value than stuff like refletix. My main concern is that my car already has the foil-bubble-foil stuff that was done 10 years ago and 99% of the bubbles are popped and therefore has greatly lost its heat effectiveness. I am hoping that this foil-foam-foil stuff lasts a lot longer as the foam to retain is form/structure better than bubble wrap. Also I see a few other forum members recommended this stuff which is also a 1/4" thick. I had been seriously considering going with Nuprene stuff, but this stuff seems it is like nuprene wrapped on both sides with foil wrap? The web site says it also reduce sound by 19db's so I am hoping that this kills 2 birds with one stone. I am not looking for something dead quiet, but a little more solid sounding as it is a convert and I get far more wind noise than I ever will get interior noise from vibrations through the cabin from cruising on the highway. I will let you all know how it works out in about 2 months as we are doing some other items to the car as it makes its way towards the resto-mod transformation....
In the car audio industry, PeelN'Seal is a popular way to sound deaden on a budget. It's cheaper. The problem comes with time, and heat. It's known for fumes when it gets hot...the asphalt base releases a fumey smell when it gets hot. In normal newer cars it's not even that bad but i can imagine in a car where the floors get so hot like a Vette that it'd be a lot more noticable.
The other common problem with the PeelN'Seal is that over time it loses it's adhesion. Under a carpet this isn't a problem, but if you're doing any part of the car that verticle or upside down, you may have issues with it coming down on you after a few months to a year.
I'm not saying don't buy it, because it may fit a budget better than a higher quality product. Dynamat and SecondSkin are top of the game...and you pay for that. I only know this because of spending many years in the car audio industry. You learn a lot about sound and heat dampners. I personally would use SecondSkin, Dynamat, or FatMat. Those are generally referred to as the top three among car audio enthusiasts.
I used the peel n seal/stick and your right. On vertical surfaces it migrates southward with time. I had no issues with odor.
For what it's worth, KoolMat has a fairly loyal following with the street rod crowd- in particular with fiberglass body group. I sent off and got some of their lit about a year ago with a sample, and what they say sounds great, but not knowing anyone who's actually used it, how do you tell?

Daaaaaaaaamn! I finally took the car out for a cruise today. I took the wife. What a difference. We had a pleasant conversation cruising in the drone range 1500 to 2000 rpm. What a difference the fatmat and felt made. I used to not be able to hear myself think, and sure couldn't hold a conversation. Today, we did both. Much, much nicer. If your exhaust is too loud, try some sound deadener. It really helps.

I went to a local car upholsterer. Had a some beige laying around. I gave him $15 bucks. They have some at Home Depot in the carpet section. I need to get some more and do my battery and storage compartments.

I have been reading good things about RAAMmat and Ensolite. A layer of RAAMmat and a layer of Ensolite. I have been thinking of doing my truck with this stuff.
