so it looks like im gonna need a new transmission......only question i have is it worth rebuliting the old one.....(AAMCO said they'll charge me 1400 to rebulit the transmission so it can handle 400hp) or shouldi buy a new one? its for a 74 stingray stock 350 (for now) and stock th350 trasmision..
i opted for the rebuild on my 73, and if you take it out and put it back in yourself you will save even more. you know i also went with the standard rebuild kit for about $160....then just find someone who does good tranny rebuilds on the side and give him a few hundered and you in there for under $500.... good luck
I have a 73, pops out of 4th gear. Anyone know if there is a adjustment that can reslove this or am I needing to rebuild. If rebuild anyone have any tips on tranny removal and install. Tips or tricks or things to be aware of.
mine had an issue going into third if i shifted quickly and also popped out of gear every now and then....replaced the synchronizers on the rebuild and had no issues after that. Pulling that trans is no problem.....and like i mentioned above if you can find someone to rebuild it for you it is a relatively low cost job.
74BATMOBILE,
If the transmission place told you your 1974 Corvette had a T350, then, unless you've had one fitted previously, they don't seem too competent. ALL automatic '74's were fitted with a Turbo 400 and from what I've picked up here (the Forum) I believe that a Turbo 200R4 will be virtually a changeover. Apart from a different tailshaft yoke, you can use your existing tailshaft and crossmember.
If though, your car has had a Turbo 350 fitted, then ignore the above.
Anyone who's done this swap like to chime in and help the guy?
