Default Rattle

I hear what sounds like a rattle... like a large metallic baby rattle, only when the car is under a slight load/acceration.

Lots of load, doesnt do it. No load, nope. I does it say when I'm on the highway going 55 in 4th and slowly speed up to 65.

I've head this on other cars too.
What is it?

Bad gas, too much advance or a large metallic baby rattle stuck in the chassis.

Hmm...aside from the baby rattle, which is possible in many states, I kinda am thinking a collapsed lifter. Maybe not completely gone but going. Without hearing it that's just a guess.

Does the car have hyd. lifters?

Can you hear the rattle at idle while you're standing next to the car?

Here is an example of when the noise might appear...

Driving along in 4th gear at around 40 mph... car starts going up a steep hill, car struggles a bit and instead of downshifting to maintaine speed... i give it more gas... then the noise appears.

It's weird. It's been doing it since i've owned the car. And on ly does it under circumstances like that.

My truck does the same thing, but it is an automatic. It's like it struggles and makes the noise, then the truck will downshift and then no more noise.

My Vette is L-71, solid lifters.

Oh, I see. In my head I have a totally different rattle. Try running premium if you don't already.

You know... you might be right about that.

I do already put premium in... but I was told that I should be putting the aviation LowLead in when I bought it... when I used to put in the 105LL I don't remember it ever making that noise... but the 105LL is so expensive that I just put in Sunoco Ultra 94 and add some Lead Substitute.

And come to think of it my 1999 camaro did that too when I accidently put **** gas in one time...

I'll see what better gas does for my truck too and maybe it won't do it either.

Thanks!

A bottle of additive to help clean everything out would be a good idea for the first new tank of gas. Run it down before switching, and add the cleaner. Then run through a few more tanks and clean it again.
