i just went out for a quick drive, had to go pick my sister up at school. no more then 10 miles round trip.
the car was running pretty good, little rough at start but it got better as it warmed up.
im comeing back home and make a nice, easy, left turn at about 10, 15mph tops in 2nd gear. all the sudden i hear a VERY loud poping sound. gauges all read normal, and everything felt pretty normal. car didnt feel like it shook, bounced, jerked, or anything like that.
i checked my rear view mirror and asked my sister if i hit something in the road. she saw nothing, and i saw nothing when i turned and nothing was behind me.
i get home and all the guages are still reading normal and the car still feels normal. i parked it and went inside for 5 mins while i waited for it to cool down a bit. i come out and theres a small puddle of milky oil right under the harmonic balancer. probably about twice the size of a watch face.
i looked over the motor and everything seems to be ok, but that doesnt mean everything realy is.

Sounds like water in the oil? The popping could have been the engine overheating; got so hot that the engine was mis-firing. I'd also pull the dipstick and check for oil condition; water in oil?. I had a similar event happen and found the engine had overheated when my heater hose disintegrated. Popped the hood and steam, rad fluid all over the top of the engine. Fortunatley, I didn't blow any head gaskets, crack the block or warp the cyl heads; a new thermostat (while I was at it), heater hose and new coolant fixed it right up (my 69 L46).
Are you telling us that you saw a spot of milky substance under your engine compartment and your first thought was to post here instead of pulling the dipstick? Good luck to you my friend.
ok, now that the panic has subsided and have had a moment to actually look it over, i MAY have jumped to conclusions on the milky oil.
i didnt notice it at first, but the ground is a little wet still from last nights rain. it may (hopefully) just have been the water on the ground that mixed with the oil and is forming the milky colord oil.
and your also right, im not a gear head. gear head in training, yes, but thats about it.
and my dad just got home and we took a look at things.
he syas i was right in jumping to conclusions about the milky oil, it just mixed with the water in the ground.
as of right now we cant find anything wrong or out of the ordinary. it started right up and ran real well. oil pressure was good and steady, and water temps were fine.
right now were just going to keep a good eye on things, and write off what happend as a freak accident. if something starts acting up again then well take a good long look at things.
Kinda sounds like a suspension issue.
I'd inspect all the front suspension components ... then move on to the rear.
I’m not sure if you have a fibreglass rear spring or not? But i was in almost the same situation however I didn’t have the milky oil under the car. Turned out that the tiny crack I had in my rear fibreglass spring had just gotten a bit bigger. Not to bad though the car still sits up at the correct level when no one is in it just sinks a bit when you get in. Needless to say iv got a spring on order but it all takes so long to get to Australia.
check the rear t-arms where the bump stop is at..... see if the metal is bent down........
i had that issue when i would go up driveways on an agle...the axle shaft was hitting the bent down bump stop and it sounded like a series of pops.....
the milky oil thing is still suspicious to me. water and oil don't turn milky just by coming in contact (ala oil leak on a rainy driveway). emulsified oil is a result of water being circulated in the oil system while the engine is running.
that being said, it does sound like a suspension problem.
I agree that the oil would sit on the water and it wouldn't mix and give you that milky look in that short of a time. I'd also look at getting that leak fixed if its dripping that much in that short amount of time.
You didn't offer any advice, just a smart *** comment, useless...
And just what did you contribute to the discussion?
IMO he got what he asked for. If you want good advise give good information for us to work with. I don't know it all and if I do have a problem with my car I first take the initiative to check atleast a few things on my own.
And yes, I have been known to be a smart *** and I prefer that to the exact opposite.
