Default question regarding backup lights

On my 76, it had a hurst aftermarket shifter installed and I have no idea how or where the backup lights were connected. I'm about to install a T56 and I want to install the back up lights and make them work. When looking at the tail lights the backup light sockets are not installed and are just hanging, when I tried to set them into the lenses they were loose and had no way for them to stay in place. I can figure this out and make them work, but I need to know where the wiring should be coming from so I reconnect. Can someone please tell me how the original backup lights were installed, were they connected to the shifter, I've looked all over the Super T10 and see no connections. Thanks for any help.

On a muncie the reverse gear linkage had a small wire attached to it which pulled a remote switch that was attached to the gearbox and this turned on and off the reverse lights.

Here's a picture of the BU light switch mounted on the side of the trans. Note the small link that connects to the reverse lever. Also, the wires connect to a connector on the firewall next to the booster( should be green and pink wires).

Thanks for the picture, I don't recall seeing that hookup on mine but I will be under it tomorrow and at least now I can look for green and pink wires. This will make things a lot easier!!!

thanks again
