I am planning to buy some flowmaster mufflers to be put on my 1980 corvette with the cat cut off. I dont know much about exhaust systems but i was wanting to know what 40 series should i put on there and what size
I wouldn't install 40s. I'm running them and they are LOUD. The loud doesn't really bother me but the resonance between 1500 and 2000 rpm does. And this is with an H pipe.

OK, thread hijack here..
what would be a good sounding street selection in a 2 1/2" true dual setup?
Flowmasters have a very annoying deep tone at 1500-2200 rpm (resonance)...
Dynomax Ultra Flow mufflers are almost as loud outside of the car but a lot (A LOT) quieter inside the car
Available at any AdvancedAuto store, 2.5" straight thru design, welded construction, as heavy as the flowmasters, not that cheap and cheasy crimped design

I had 40's on my C4 and they were super loud and resonated. they were replaced with dynomax mufflers. The Dynomax's have a very nice sound and tone but are much quieter inside the car.

I have Flow's (40 series) with an H-pipe. Had too much resonance even after the H-pipe, but much less than without. Added Fat-Mat sound deadener to the whole inner body. Now the sound is very acceptable. (No annoying resonance in the cabin).
Ditch the mufflers and go with Chambered Exhaust. I have them on my 76 and they sound GREAT. Nice noise when you romp on it, deep throaty sound while at an idle.
Go with Flowmaster Super40's instead of regular 40's. The Super40's make more power, have a deeper tone, and don't have the annoying interior resonance. The size depends on what size exhaust you currently have, or plan to have.

Where do I find Fat Mat. Is it cheaper than DynoMat?
I had 40's on my 1980 vette and 12 hours later, i had Dynomax's.. I couldn't hear myself think. They totally sucked. Luck for me, the local muffler shop swapped them out the next morning. I hated them and so did the wife.
I agree with the KID...<<If its too LOUD you're too OLD!!!>> I put 2 1/4 Flowmaster 40's on my '77 and they make my little Ol' Stock motor sound MEAN!! I had a raddle in one of them I just found out and took it back to be replaced under warrenty and guess what they found inside of it? NOT a Flowmaster probem but a S K 9/16 wrench!! All black and nasty and pitted........Now where did THAT come from??? Only thing I can figure is that someone put it up the tail pipe peice or when the motor was worked on in 1992 someone dropped the wrench down the pipe at the manifold and it finally made it to the muffler. I had the Flowmasters put on in August this year and the wrench looked like it had been there a lot longer than a few months!!

Well, excuse me but...Im 52 and my ears have been abused badly for years. Also, in most areas, the local law enforcement dosn't take too kindly to anything louder than the Dynomax. Comments like YOU ARE TOO OLD are uncalled for! Some of us like to take the wife on a cruise and talk between us on the trip. The Flo-masters make that impossible. Surprised a "kid" drives a Vette Most KIDS drive a Honda with a FART TUBE sticking out the back and their getto blaster 1,000,000 watt amp blasting out so everyone can enjoy the CRAP that the KIDS listen to and think it is actually MUSIC!
