Received my stainless steel sidepipes from Sweet Thunder yesterday and the driver's side went on with ease. The passenger side however is more of a challenge with that heat riser(flapper gadget) on the end of the manifold. I have the heat riser pushed tight up against the manifold where it should be but can't get all three of the nuts started on the studs as they don't seem long enough. I can barely get two of them started on the threads but the other is too short to get on to. I tried taking the heat riser out of the equation but then it pulls the pipe too far up and bumps the sidepipe into the frame causing a poor fit. Do I need to get longer studs or am I doing something wrong? The old rusted out aluminum pipes I removed had nuts on all three manifold studs so why can't I get these on?
I have it on now with two nuts started on the studs but the flapper won't open so I'm assuming the reducer is jammed against it. Do I need that reducer in there? I'd like to get this side on so I can fire her up and hear how she sounds.....you know........SWEET THUNDER!!
When I installed mine I removed the heat riser valve. It just took slightly longer for the choke to come off. I don't drive the car in the cold weather anyway so I just backed the choke off and left it that way. My pipes were both the same length so the right one would have been too low if I tried to leave the heat riser in.
Thanks guys. I was able to get it attached with the heat riser on but needed to jack and bend at the pipe which may have been bent a little crooked from shipping. I wired the heat riser open as the car will be driven only in warm temperatures. They sound great but did stink up the garage a little. Must have been the sticker glue that was on them burning off.

Good idea since even though the flapper is open it still acts as a barrier or restriction to the exhaust. I just didn't want to wait for one to be shipped out sonce I was soooo close to getting it back on the road legally!
