I have a 1977 corvette. The car is highly modified and used to road rase. However it is can be driven on the street. It has 372 rear gear with a B&M 350. I'm looking for some info on converting the trans to a 700r. I was told this could be done with a electric switch for the overdrive when riven on the highway. I would like to do it this way as I can ture off the switch when racing. Anyone have suggestions?

There are many ways to handle lock up. Some guys(myself included) like a simple 1 wire 4th gear only lock up. When trans shifts to 4th, lock up is immediate. There are valves that can be installed in the valvebody to control lock up, although most never install this type. There are also vacuum switch set ups that allow for variations in lock up.
Many ways to skin this cat.

What do you mean by "road race" ? Are we talking 1/4 mile racing on the street or road course type racing. If it's a road course why wouldn't you want to run a manual transmission? I'm just curious because most people that autocross run manual transmissions for better RPM control and acceleration out of the turns.

Do a search. There is plenty of info on 700R4 conversions and how to handle lockup.
