How many like mine?
I just got a 1978 yesterday. I am wondering how many are just like mine. I found production numbers and stuff, but I was wondering if there is anyway to put them together. Like I know there were 40,274 base coupes made, 2,074 were red, and 4,067 had red leather interiors. I am looking for a way to figure out how many were red, with a red leather interior. And also the other options.
Is there any way to figure that stuff out or am I out of luck? Also, where are the rpo codes in it?
It is a 1978. It has 13,514 miles on it. All original. I got it from the original owner who has worked with me for the last 25 years. I am the second person to ever drive it! It has never seen rain, and never even been wet. The guy I got it from has never washed it! It has only been floored three times! All of them when it was fairly new, and it was at the track. It went a 14.71 at 90 something mph. He has the slip, he just needs to dig it out. It is red on red with red t-tops. It has the L-82 engine. It has the radio with no options. Sport mirrors. Power windows and locks. rear window defogger. A/C. Auto trans. Tilt/telescope wheel. Power antenna. Dual rear speakers. Aluminum wheels. Convenience Group. I am not sure if it has the gear option. Howard, the guy I got it from, says he thinks they are 3.55.
Any help would be great!
Thanks!
Rick
Not the best pic, I'll post more when I get them!

If you are lucky, the RPO codes are listed on the build sheet which is usually stashed somewhere in the car. The most likely place, unfortunately, is on top of the gas tank. However, I have a '76 and could never find it anywhere and I understand that somewhere along the line they stopped putting them in the cars. I'm not sure which year that was. With the C4's, they glued them to the back of one of the compartments behind the seats. As for details regarding color combinations, I don't believe that info was ever published.
dust off of it, dry.

Sorry, there is no way to know the rarity of option combinations. All you can do is guess. This does not stop people from guessing but the supporting documentation is not available.

Regardless, nicely done!

Whats the status on your other project? Have not seen any updates lately... And I seem to remember it being VERY nice!
It looks like this right now.

Thanks everyone else too!

Congrats on the new girl

Enjoy!
As for exterior/interior combinations, I don't think that level of detail was retained by GM back during that era. NCRS members may know otherwise. You should look up your local NCRS chapter. You can get a 1978 NCRS guide for your C3 for under $30 that helps alot with deciphering all of the date codes on your car; I bought one for my '69 at the Kissimmee NCRS show in early 2005.

You are welcome. Stop back and give us updates as you get into the C3 (repairs, improvements etc.). Quite the body of knowledge here.

Here's a buddy in OH that may be able to help you out with info from NCRS:
Paul Borowski, Massillon,Ohio NCRS # 26140
I'll send a 'Private Message' to Paul via the forum and see if he can offer some info.
