HEI dist gear dimple

Ok, I have removed my HEI to rework Lars style. Tore completly down, cleand and lubed (boy was it stiff) new module and condenser, new 1838 vac can, light springs. Can't wait to get it back in. When I took the distributor gear off the dimple was facing away from the rotor contact. In Lars's paper (and SWDuke, etal) it states that the dimple is supposed to line up with the rotor contact. Is that HEI also or just points type? The dimple does not line up directly with the rotor contact, almost but not quite. Sound correct? Thx guys.

It's the same on HEI, it just faces the same direction. It's about a 1/4" off from lining up directly.

That's correct. Gear dimple always faces the same direction as the firing tab on the rotor, even on HEI.
