Default Anyone know where I can find a 12-28 Helicoil?

I have found that Bubba has been into my center tri-power carb, a Holley 2300. The screw holding down the shooter is a 1/4 allen head bolt where it should be a special 12-28 screw. The bolt is working but I was looking at doing a correct repair if possible. Can't seem to locate a 12-28 Helicoil. Not even sure the casting would take an insert. Has anyone done a repair like this before? It is a correctly dated carb so I would like to keep it.

Ask for Lyle or Howard..
If they don't have it IN STOCK, they CAN and will get it. Just 80 miles north of Sacramento. Same day shipping.

Fill the hole with an aluminum brazing rod an re-tap it.

Check with Holley. I know they have a helicoil kit for the fuel bowl threads which I think are also 12-28.

They can be hard to find, most parts stores don't carry that size. At least not the 10 that I tried. I ended up ordering from McMaster.

I found mine at the local nut and bolt specialty store.

Default An Alternative...

Helicoil is the way to go, but another way to do it is using an aluminum bolt to repair the hole. Screw the aluminum 1/4 bolt in the hole with lock-tite, cut it off, then drill/tap/re-thead it to 12-28. Last resort to repair alloy parts, and it works great. Thats how I repaired my wiper door that bubba killed with what looked like bent over nails!
