Default Air Filter Resto

Help please! Just another one of those little jobs trying to put things back to original. When I bought my '72 BB the air cleaner had been played around with a bit. The flame arrestor and elbow off the base was missing. Since bought the items from Paragon but could someone answer three questions please:
How is the tube attached to the base originally, welded / rivetted ?
Is there a grommet which seals the arrestor to the tube on the base or is it just metal to metal.
Is the elbow for the BB the same as for the SB (I could only find a listing for the SB).
Any help would be appreciated please, no cars in Tasmania to compare it to.

Chris,

I will look for you tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure the elbow is spot welded to the air cleaner.
The elbow - pretty sure - is different betwen BB and SB.

I will take a picture and post it for you.

Hello Bill,
Thanks for your help. Also what color should the base be flat, semi gloss, enamel?

The breather tube is welded and the arrestor is pressed on. On my 71 350, I put on a weiand intake with a holley. I bought the open element air cleaner base for a big block and the factory hose that comes from the valve cover hooks up exactly to the breather tube.

Thank you for the photos. The flame arrestor will work but the tube is a bit different. Think I can seen now what I need to do.
Best regards,
Chris
