Default Non functioning Tachometer

I am inquiring for a friend that has a stock 1980 Corvette. His tachometer froze at a set rpm while driving. Any and all help or suggestions in resolving this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thank You! Sorry if this question has been addressed in the past. Have a nice Thanksgiving!

The electric tachs have 2 elements that can go bad. There is a controller board and a motor that moves the needle. If he examines the controller board he might find some burned etching.

New boards are available from some of the forum members.

If he finds that he needs a new board, send me an email or a PM. I just bought a pair of tachs - one with a new board and one with a good motor. I think I might be changing my guages to AutoMeter since my project requires an electric speedometer also. I'd be willing to sell the pair for what I paid - $100 + a few bucks for shipping.

A bad ignition module can cause tach problems too.

If I was to replace parts I would think about a new tach filter also. I
understand to helps voltage surges.
