Default door panel question

I am reinstalling my interior door panels on my 79 and I am running into a problem. after I get the panels re-installed evrything looks good. then I shut the doors and the top pops off the lip at the top of the doors. Is there a trick to this?

Are they repo panels? I have some plastic backed repo ones on my car and they do the same thing! I think they just do not fit the doors like the originals.

Well I hope that somebody has some ideas! I was thinking of heating and bending mine to fit the door better, but this is not a option for you with the factory panels.

Did you have the door off? Sounds like the door is to far forward and its contacting the dash. Was the dash off?

no I have already checked that. it appears that the action of the door closing jars the top off of the lip

hope im not telling u what u already know here. when u get panel on, hook top first by holding panel away from door on 45 degree angle and hitting top of door panel, once locked at the top, everything should fall into place. im thinking ur getting panel on, but not getting top to hook in first. really hope this helps

that is exactly what I am doing and after it is all put together it looks great. then I close the door and the top pops off. I realy think it is the jaring of the door that pops it loose
