If you want exotic, go big.
It'll cost you, but it's only money.
I just backed out of my big block swap at the 11th hour.
I just didn't want to tie up all that cash in a driver.
I went with a mild 383 stroker, but come springtime I may go for some world heads and big valves to get into the 450 hp range.
You cold split the difference and go with a 400CI.
easy swap, the acessories transfer etc.
you could stroke that to what? 427? (426)
I expect you could get an easy 600 to 650hp with a somewhat streetable buildup, (fast bleed lifters etc)
Probably build it for $4k, but what do I know?
Thanks for the compliments, but I just wanted to clarify, I did not use the World Products Motown block. My block is a Dart Iron Eagle/GM Rocket block. The only reason I point that out is because the Rocket Blocks have a couple of features unavailable on the Motowns such as a tall 9.325" deck height, pan rails spread .800", a .391" raised cam, Big Block cam bearings, and billet steel 4 bolts splayed caps. In my opinion, I think they are all important and advantageous features, and are the primary reason I selected the Rocket block over the Motown.
I used Dart 18* CNC ported heads as well.
Momo is right, there are certainly more cost effective methods of attaining a specific power level, but it depends on what you want.
Even though the majority is going with the BB, I think i'm going to start preping my 350 for a blower and maybe by the end of next summer i'll have it on the street riping up asphalt. :smash:
You'll love the blower...just make sure you get a big enough one for the intended use. I'm running a Weiand 142
on my small block with Holley aluminum heads. The heads and cam flow enough that I can only get 6 pounds of
boost, which is adequate for street use and 92 octane. For strip and street I should have gotten a 177 blower.
If you buy a 671 you'll make a lot of HP at high RPM's but it will not be as efficent at low RPM's where you tend
to drive the majority of the time anyway. The little Weiand consistently gets me to 11.60's @ 115 MPH in the
quarter but is docile enough to drive to the corner market for milk and cookies.
I've been pondering this idea for a while. The decision in the end was that I want a rat motor. My buddy took me for a ride in his 1980 Camaro. The Camaro has a 454 in it (almost identical to the one I'm building) and the power was INSANE! He mashed the accelerator to the floor and I was pinned back against the seat. After everything that my dad has told me about the big blocks and after experiencing one first-hand, I'm ready to drop one into the old 'Vette
