I think the poly bushings make the suspension work too free. With the rubber bushings the suspension tries to come back to a certain point -the poly doesnt have this memory.
Gordon have you tried the 2 plates across the diff. support that makes it solid? http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=533
I have all poly bushings, but I don't have a wheel hop issue. My car is an auto, so I wonder if that makes a difference?
Oh, that's the aluminum disks/plates you guys have been talking about. I gotta' make me some of those...
I made them myself also. One of my customers is a steel service center. I went in and cut my own discs and drilled the correct hole. Put in studs and put a washer and nut on the sombrero and another washer and nut on the disc. Very easy to do.

If you just mash the throttle from a stop and get the wheels spinning and stay in it you get no wheel hop? What kind of spring and shocks are you running.
I have the same problem, and here is what I think has happened.
I did not have any what so ever!! Wheel hop when I had the stock 30 year old t/a bushings!!
I put in poly like eveyone else had done and then wheel hop started.
I installed the traction bar no difference! Wasted money!
If those bushings weren't such a pain in the azz I would go back to the stock rubber.
This just my 2 cents,
Happy Hopping
I don't know if indicting the poly bushings is right. I've had all poly bushings for years, including the snubber. I've done alot of racin' and some messing around on the street (not racing) and I have never experienced wheel hop.

Why didnt you just use a bolt? I thought the whole idea is to do away with any play or gap.Maybe I just dont follow. You have a nut on the top side of the aluminum?
I dont remember if you said what your spring rate was but do you think it could just be your spring and shock combo?Do you have your old steel spring to try?

I can spin my tires all day long from a stop and not have any wheel hop at all. My rear suspension:
-100% poly bushings
-VBP trailing arms
-VBP adjustable struts
-Carrera 3 way adjustable shocks (set at 2)
-VBP 360# spring
-VBP 3/4" sway bar
-VBP rear diff locator discs
-Spicer 1350 u joints
-custom made 3" half shafts
My car is lowered, and my half shafts are parallel to the ground. Here is a pic:
I wonder if the lack of a sway bar can cause this?
I did not need a nut on the sombrero but I thought two supporting washer/nut combo is better than one. I have one washer/nut combo just like stock tightened up against the sombrero and that would hold the crossmember just like stock. The second nut compresses the sombrero with the aluminum disc for more ridgitity.
I see you have adjustable shocks. My setup is about the same exept for the adjustable shocks. I did run a sway bar before tha larger rims and still had the hop. I think it is a spring/shock issue
Yes I have them installed. Did it a few years ago.
I have an extra set of aluminum discs if anyone needs them....say $25 DELIVERED anywhere in the lower 48 states...and for the hard core among you I have a diff crossmember (looks like new) that had the sombrero holes plated over with steel....$125+UPS.....e-mail direct!! redvetracr@yahoo.com
