Engine Core
If I buy a crate engine do I have to give up my numbers matching engine? Or do I go to the junk yard and get a sb350 and trade that in? Do I have to figure the cost of a core in on the crate engine expense for the project?

Depends on where u get your engine. Most ppl will let you pay the core fee or something like that. I went with a crate builder that did not require core charge, because I plan on keeping my stock engine/tranny nestled away in the garage.
Ask up front is there a core charge, most do not charge them, but some places do.

If you buy a "rebuilt" engine, there's a core charge that you would want to pay to keep your #'s matching stuff. If you buy a "crate" engine (typically from G.M.), they are new and do not have a core charge...

I agree with Wrencher. Crate engines are new. Rebuilt engines are exactly that -- some older which has been rebuilt. Rebuilt engines usually require cores.
